The hospital was established in 1926 by the community as a memorial for the local men who were killed during the Great War.  A group of local ladies who had lost sons in the war spear-headed the efforts to raise funds.  Their fundraising efforts also attracted Queensland government funding which allowed the hospital to be built in 1926
