a history of the Rolfe family

Henry Walter Rolfe (1902 - 1979)

My grandad Henry, or Harry to his friends, was born in Nechells in 1902 the first son to war veteran Henry Rolfe who had been shot during the 3rd Anglo Burmese War back in 1885. Henry was the youngest of seven children and with six older sisters and I am sure things would have been interesting with his mother running the local shop from the corner of Aston Church Road and Arley Road selling 'general' items. Henry met his wife Doris Sims in Birmingham, she had moved there from the Derbyshire countryside for work and stayed with her brother and his wife. Henry spent most of his working life working for Lucas in and around Birmingham and many a great time was had at their annual sports day in Perry Barr
